Biathlon: Dominant Norwegian relay win – Sweden grabs podium

Norway delivered a dominant victory in the men’s biathlon relay, ultimately pulling away from France after a close mid‑race duel. The Norwegians’ win was underpinned by an impressive third leg from Sturla Holm Lægreid, which opened a decisive gap ahead of the anchor leg.

Sweden, meanwhile, produced a dramatic comeback to secure third place. After a difficult opening leg from Jesper Nelin left the team well down the order, Sweden was still outside the top ten at halfway. Malte Stefansson, with limited World Cup relay experience, held his nerve and kept Sweden in contention, handing over to Martin Ponsiluoma.

On the third leg, Ponsiluoma launched a major charge, lifting Sweden from 12th up to 6th before the final exchange. That set up a three‑way battle for the last podium place with Germany and the United States. Anchor Sebastian Samuelsson then closed the deal with a rapid, clean final standing shoot and a strong last lap to clinch third.

SVT expert Björn Ferry praised the effort, calling it a statement of strength after the early setback. Commentator Niklas Nord noted that Norway’s margin of victory was ultimately large, reminiscent of Sweden’s dominant women’s relay win the previous day. The podium repeated last weekend’s Östersund order: Norway first, France second, and Sweden third.
