Biathlon Star Outsmarts German Athlete on Home Terrain
Italian top biathlete Tommaso Giacomel flexes his muscles on unfamiliar ground, making a statement in cross-country skiing. Ultimately, he outsmarted a specialist from Germany.
Giacomel secured victory in the 10km race of the Five Nations Trophy, finishing with an impressive time of 25:16 minutes, leaving notable competition behind. Close behind him was fellow Italian Elia Barp, a full-time skier, while German skier Friedrich Moch finished third, trailing by 35 seconds.
Giacomel, who won his first Biathlon World Cup race in Ruhpolding this January, confirmed his excellent form. Several other biathletes took the opportunity to compete in cross-country skiing, with Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet finishing in a commendable fourth place. Johannes Kühn managed to clinch ninth place, and Roman Rees and David Zobel took 15th and 22nd respectively, with German combiner Johannes Rydzek finishing 26th.
Typically, biathletes or combiners try their hand at cross-country skiing after the season, as the effort to conduct a competition in this discipline is much less demanding.
Just recently, Finnish biathlon icon Kaisa Mäkäräinen made waves by winning in the first stage of the 'Lapponia Ski Week'.
