Ukrainian Olympic biathlon champion Vita Semerenko has recently encountered troubling news: she is temporarily suspended due to missing several doping tests. This suspension, imposed by the national anti-doping agency of Ukraine, has been confirmed by the Ukrainian Biathlon Federation.
At 38 years old, Semerenko is facing the consequences of having missed three doping tests over the past year. As a result, she has been banned from participating in competitions. Although she announced her retirement from the Biathlon World Cup following the 2021/22 season, Semerenko remains a member of the Ukrainian national team and continues to compete in national championships, where anti-doping regulations still come into play.
Throughout her illustrious career, Semerenko has achieved remarkable success, securing an Olympic gold medal as part of the relay team in Sochi 2014 and earning a bronze in the sprint. Her accolades also include two silver and one bronze medal at the World Championships in relay events, as well as three individual World Championship medals, five golds at the European Championships, and three World Cup victories.
