Break-up for German biathlon star Philipp Nawrath and Norway’s Karoline Offigstad Knotten

German biathlete Philipp Nawrath and Norway’s Karoline Offigstad Knotten have confirmed that they have ended their relationship. “It didn’t work between us, but we’re good. Everything is fine,” the 32‑year‑old Nawrath told Norwegian broadcaster TV2.

Knotten also confirmed the split, saying: “It’s over, but we are good friends. I’m happy and in a good place.” The pair had gotten together in 2023, after getting to know each other better at the 2022/23 season‑ending party in Oslo. Knotten now has a new partner living in Norway, which she says makes everyday life easier.

Away from her private life, Knotten faced a sporting setback in the spring when the Norwegian federation removed her from the national team training group due to disagreements over training content. As a result, she prepared largely on her own in France for the Olympic winter and says she feels she has come through the situation well: “I still have a lot of work to do, but I’ll get mentally set and put together a good season.” She finished 14th in last season’s overall World Cup.

Biathlon legend Ole Einar Bjørndalen called her current status “not optimal,” noting that the best should be in the national team. Still, he sees an opportunity: “Maybe this is a wake‑up call. Now she is building her own team with positive people who give her energy and taking responsibility for what she does. I have great confidence in her for the winter.”
