Elvira Öberg produced a statement performance in Sunday’s biathlon sprint in Idre, Sweden. The 26‑year‑old Swede shot flawlessly—hitting all ten targets—and combined it with strong ski speed to secure her first victory of the season by a wide margin.
On the final lap, Elvira accelerated and opened up 12 seconds on one of her closest challengers on the day, her sister Hanna Öberg. At the finish, Elvira won by a full minute over Germany’s Janina Hettich‑Walz, while Hanna Öberg completed the podium, 1:02 back.
“It was about time,” Elvira told SVT Sport. “I think it was the first time since January 2023 that I shot clean in a sprint… so it means a lot.” She added that she “opened hard and could handle it,” calling it a very positive sign for her form.
SVT expert and Olympic champion Björn Ferry lauded the display as “really strong” and “very impressive.” The result followed Saturday’s race in which Elvira finished second behind Hanna Öberg.
The sprint in Idre served as an early‑season test for the Swedish team, with Elvira’s perfect shooting and dominant skiing underscoring her ambitions for the winter ahead.
