Just before the season starts: German biathlon prospect switches nationality

German biathlon prospect Iva Moric has left the German Ski Association (DSV) shortly before the start of the 2025/26 season and will compete for Croatia.
According to the International Biathlon Union (IBU) website, the 21‑year‑old is already registered as a Croatian athlete. Moric herself confirmed the change on Instagram, sharing photos in her new team kit. Born in Bad Reichenhall, she has Croatian family roots.
Moric was regarded as a major talent in the German ranks. At the 2022 Junior World Championships in Soldier Hollow (USA) she won three medals: silver in the individual, silver in the relay, and bronze in the sprint—finishing ahead of several names who have since made their mark in the World Cup. In both the sprint and the individual, she placed one spot ahead of Selina Grotian; Julia Tannheimer was also part of the German squad. In the relay, Moric teamed up with Grotian and Marlene Fichtner for second place.
While Grotian and Tannheimer continued to rise in subsequent seasons, Moric’s development stagnated, prompting her to pursue a reboot with Croatia.
