Tommaso Giacomel produced a dominant performance to win the men’s biathlon mass start in Le Grand-Bornand, France, earning the third World Cup victory of his career.

The Italian missed a single target in the opening prone but then delivered fast, perfect shooting in both standing stages, allowing him to break clear and cross the line with a comfortable margin. “Today I felt unbeatable… I knew the first miss was my fault, but I made up for it and the race went perfectly. I felt incredibly strong on the skis,” Giacomel told SVT Sport.

SVT expert Mona Brorsson praised the display: “Wow, that was beautiful,” she said of Giacomel’s standing shooting.

Behind Giacomel, France’s Éric Perrot finished second and Norway’s Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen took third. Sweden’s Sebastian Samuelsson, who had looked on course for the podium midway through the race, dropped back after penalty loops and finished eighth. Martin Ponsiluoma placed 11th and Jesper Nelin 27th.

The victory fulfills a long‑held ambition for Giacomel to win in Le Grand-Bornand and underscores his rising form in the World Cup.
