Biathlon: Austria’s Lara Wagner finishes bloodied after crash in Munich final

There were needlessly dramatic scenes in the women’s rollerski biathlon final in Munich.
Austria’s Lara Wagner finished the race bloodied and last after an unfortunate collision. The crash happened right after the first shooting, when Wagner and Norway’s star Karoline Offigstad Knotten rushed into the penalty loop at the same time.
“It’s messy in the penalty loop—you can see it’s crowded when they head out. The mat also breaks there; that’s something they need to watch out for on coming laps,” SVT expert Mona Brorsson said on the broadcast.
Wagner eventually crossed the finish line with blood on her face. “That actually looked quite unpleasant—she probably needs to be checked,” Brorsson added.
The race was part of a rollerski biathlon event in Munich. A video clip shows the collision and Wagner’s bloody finish.
