Aleksandr Bolsjunov’s father: Childhood home destroyed after Ukrainian attack
Originally published in SVT Sport on April 27, 2025
Aleksandr Bolsjunov's father revealed that their childhood home in the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine, has been utterly destroyed by a projectile. Fortunately, no one was present in the house at the time of the attack. The father shared that the home, a place rich in memories where Aleksandr took his first steps in skiing, is now gone. He stated, "The house is completely ruined, the projectile struck right in the middle." The family had moved to a safer area earlier due to previous incidents. There are uncertainties regarding whether they will rebuild the house. The father hopes for peace in the region soon, stating, "We have long hoped for peace. We shall see what happens." Since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian athletes, including Bolsjunov, have been banned from international competitions. However, the International Olympic Committee recently recommended allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in future events, raising concerns about the impact on international competitions.
