Alvar Myhlback ill – may miss the season opener

Swedish cross-country talent Alvar Myhlback has suffered a setback just days after a breakthrough podium. The 19‑year‑old placed third in the sprint at last weekend’s World Cup in Trondheim, underscoring his rapid rise at the international level.
Since then, Myhlback says he has been ill and may be forced to skip the coming weekend’s long‑distance season opener in the Ski Classics series. “I’ve been sick,” he explained when asked about his readiness for the premiere. His participation will be decided close to race day depending on recovery.
The illness comes at an unfortunate time as Myhlback balances World Cup appearances with ambitions in the marathon‑style Ski Classics circuit. Missing the opener would delay his planned start to the long‑distance season after the momentum of his World Cup podium.
