Anders Byström defends Ebba: "Of course it hurts"
The Swedish cross‑country director Anders Byström speaks about the enormous disappointment after missing out on gold in the women's relay at the Olympics.
"Of course it hurts that the girls have to experience this. Everyone skis well except for the accident that happens to Ebba. A brutal fall and then you understand that the win is over. At the same time we win a silver." Byström says that the loose snow made the downhill sections very tough and he does not agree with Hanna Falk's questioning of Ebba Andersson's ski technique.
Byström emphasised the team effort and the harsh conditions on the course, defended Ebba from public criticism and underlined that despite the accident the Swedish team still secured silver in a high‑level Olympic race. He also pointed to the course conditions — with soft, loose snow in the descents — as a major factor in the crash.
