Austria’s cross-country team began the World Cup season in Ruka with a strong sprint result from Benjamin Moser. The Tyrolean advanced to the semifinals and ultimately placed 10th, earning a top‑10 finish to start his campaign.
Moser, 28, finished fifth in his semifinal heat, narrowly missing the final. “My big goal is the top six, but to start the new season with a top‑10 is really cool and absolutely not a given,” he said afterward.
Teammates Michael Föttinger and Erik Engel finished 20th and 24th, respectively. Lukas Mrkonjic, Tobias Ganner and Magdalena Scherz did not qualify for the knockout rounds.
Norway dominated the men’s sprint, with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo winning to lead a Norwegian podium sweep. In the women’s sprint, Norway also prevailed through Kristine Stavås Skistad.
