Charlotte Kalla on life after her career: “It has been challenging”

She put her skis on the shelf three years ago.
Life after the career has been almost entirely shaped by family life.
– It’s fantastic to have become a parent. It feels so incredibly far away that I once was an elite athlete, Charlotte Kalla tells SVT Sport.
She is one of Sweden’s biggest sporting profiles. When she ended her career in 2022 it was with the hope of starting a family.
In August last year Charlotte and her partner Fredrik welcomed their second son, Sam. Big brother Alvin is two years old.
During Kalla’s whole career she was extremely determined and strong-willed — she wanted things her way. Two small boys don’t understand that.
– It has definitely been challenging and I have had to get to know myself even better. Even though in elite sport I often had the chance to reflect on why I had strong feelings, for a control-oriented person like me it has meant practising patience, she says.
"I check times in the FIS app"
When the two-year-old is at preschool Charlotte Kalla tries, between nursing and naps, to fit in the assignments and collaborations she does. She also follows cross‑country races as much as possible, because this winter she will be an expert for SVT at the Olympics.
– I’ve tried to check times in the FIS app when there have been races, or I can walk around with an earpiece in the playground and get what’s happening, Kalla says.
