All signs pointed to a Swedish Olympic gold in the women's cross‑country relay, but that did not happen. On the second leg Ebba Andersson suffered two falls and also lost a ski, which ruined Sweden’s chances. Despite the setback the Swedish team fought back and ultimately took silver, while Norway won the race.
The incident occurred on the second leg when Andersson hit trouble and went down twice. In addition to the crashes she also lost a ski, which cost valuable time and momentum. After the chaos the team managed to regroup and ski into a blue‑yellow second place, but the hoped‑for gold slipped away.
Radiosporten reports that observers and commentators had seen Sweden as the favorite for the victory, making the outcome especially painful. Related coverage includes analysis of what went wrong on Andersson’s leg and reactions from experts.
