Cross-country: Edvin Anger critical of Olympic preparation: 'Last time I do it'

Edvin Anger calls his Olympic championship "deplorable" and says he will change his approach going forward.

The 23-year-old told SVT Sport that he will skip the 50 km and that this was the last time he would follow the kind of preparation used before these Games. Anger arrived at Milan–Cortina 2026 with medal ambitions but has shown form far from that. After the failure in the men's relay he said he will at most race one more event at the Olympics.

"I could probably have gone home and ignored this," he said, "but I'm going to give it one last little chance in the teamsprint, then that's enough."

The article notes that women such as Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson have hit form at the Games after choosing individual preparation paths, while the Swedish men's team followed a different route, including a joint pre-camp in Seefeld, Austria. Only three of the men on the A-team were selected for the Olympics because others did not perform well enough.

"We must analyse what isn't working and really think about whether we can train better and do things better for Falun (World Championships)," said national team manager Anders Byström. He added that such an analysis can't be done on the spot.

Anger says he will prepare differently next time and that he tends to be a loner in his training. The piece includes video material from the Games and links to related coverage about the Swedish men’s relay failure and criticism within the team.
