Edvin Anger was the only Swedish man to make it through the prologue of the men’s freestyle sprint at the Tour de Ski opener. He finished fourth in his quarterfinal heat, squeezing into the semifinals as a lucky loser by a tenth of a second.

In the semifinals, however, Anger placed fifth and did not advance to the final. “It’s just not good enough. I had at least hoped to be in a final, and once you’re in a final anything can happen,” he told SVT Sport.

It was a tough day overall for Sweden: eight of nine Swedish men were eliminated in the prologue. Alvar Myhlback finished 46th, 7.33 seconds off the lead, and voiced his frustration with both his speed and technique in skating.

Norway dominated the final, sweeping the podium. Superstar Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won, with 20‑year‑old Lars Heggen second and 21‑year‑old Oskar Opstad Vike third. Klæbo welcomed the rise of the younger Norwegians, noting a generational shift while emphasizing he plans to keep taking his chances before they fully take over.
