Fires Back at Klæbo: – Disrespectful and Unacceptable

In a press release, Gudbrand Skraastad openly criticized Johannes Høsflot Klæbo for not participating in the upcoming ski championships. He emphasized that Klæbo's decision not to compete in the 10-kilometer event on Wednesday is a significant setback not just for the championships, but for Norwegian skiing as a whole. Skraastad stated, "Langrenn needs real recruitment, and young athletes want to see the best. They want to witness their role models competing. It is hopeless when the best don’t show up. I find this disrespectful and unacceptable towards Norwegian skiing."

This comment arose after the registration lists for the national championships were published, revealing Klæbo's absence. In response to inquiries about Klæbo's non-participation, his media advisor, Lasse Gimnes, confirmed that Klæbo is not fit to compete due to recovery needs after the Tour de Ski.

Many elite Norwegian skiers are also skipping the championships, including noted athletes like Tiril Udnes Weng, Astrid Øyre Slind, and several others, which has raised alarms concerning the visibility and appeal of the sport for recruitment purposes.
