Frida Karlsson lost the lead after a blazing start

Sweden’s Frida Karlsson opened Stage 2 of the Tour de Ski with an aggressive attack in the women’s 10 km classic in Toblach, Italy. After leading early, she faded as the race progressed and ultimately finished outside the podium.

Karlsson placed fifth, 36 seconds behind the Norwegian winner Astrid Øyre Slind. The result leaves Karlsson needing to manage her effort more evenly in the coming stages of the Tour if she is to challenge for overall honors.
