Sweden’s Johanna Hagström set the fastest time in the women’s sprint qualification at the FIS Cross-Country World Cup opener in Ruka, Finland, reinforcing her affinity for the venue after winning here last season.
Teammate Emma Ribom had a scare in the qualifier, nearly missing the cut but ultimately advancing in 30th place—the last spot into the knockout heats—on her birthday.
Radiosporten expert Torgny Mogren lauded Hagström’s performance while suggesting another Swedish skier could also contend for a top podium position in the finals. The women’s and men’s sprint finals were scheduled to start at 11:20 local time in the Sveriges Radio app.
