U.S. cross-country skiing star Jessie Diggins has confirmed that she will retire after the current season. In a post on Instagram, the 33-year-old said the decision is difficult but feels right, and that she is grateful for what the sport has meant to her.
“I’ve been thinking for a long time about how to express what this sport has meant to me, but the truth is that I start to cry every time,” she wrote. “It will be tough for me to stop, but it feels right in my heart and I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my life.”
The confirmation follows an October remark by FIS official Simon Caprini suggesting this would be Diggins’ final season.
Over a 15-year elite career, Diggins has amassed 21 individual World Cup victories and two more in team events. She has also won three Olympic medals and seven World Championship medals, most recently taking the 10 km freestyle world title in Planica in 2023.
