Johanna Hagström finished on the podium in Val di Fiemme, coming third in the sprint final on the very course that will host the Olympic races in just over a month.
"That final climb at the end suits me — it's fun to have skied through the course," Hagström told SVT Sport. She produced a strong finish in the final to claim the bronze on the Olympic track.
Hagström also revealed she had felt terrible earlier in the day after the prologue: "I felt awful. I became nauseous, had pain in my airways and was basically seeing double. I even threw up on the way to the bus, then it got better," she said. After the prologue she had resigned herself to simply surviving the quarterfinals: "I thought if I survive the quarter I'm happy."
Jasmi Joensuu of Finland won the sprint, while Nadine Fändrich of Switzerland took second. Maja Dahlqvist was fourth — despite being well down after the morning prologue — and described the day as "really tough": "It's probably one of the better results I've done with such bad legs," she told SVT Sport.
Moa Ilar missed out on the sprint final after being placed last in her heat because of an obstruction; she had been in contention as a lucky loser. Ilar lies third overall in the Tour standings ahead of Sunday’s final stage, 1:38 behind leader Jessie Diggins.
The Val di Fiemme sprint was part of the ongoing Tour de Ski and served as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic programme to be held at the same venue next month.
