Johannes Høsflot Klæbo placed 15th in the men’s 20 km mass start in Ruka and described the race as a major disappointment.

“There was nothing working, I’ve worn myself out,” he told SVT Sport, adding that he was “bloody irritated” with how the race unfolded. Midway through the competition there was a large lead pack, but when the pace changed Klæbo couldn’t follow. “They got a cheap gap and it wasn’t even going that fast,” he said.

Klæbo finished 18.3 seconds behind the winner, Norway’s Harald Østberg Amundsen. Sweden’s Edvin Anger took third place after the leaders broke away from the rest of the field.
