Hometown hero Klæbo hits 100 World Cup wins in Trondheim as new sprint stars emerge

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo produced a storybook milestone in Trondheim, winning the men’s sprint to register the 100th FIS World Cup victory of his career—and doing so on his home tracks where he won six golds at the 2025 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Klæbo controlled the final, using positioning through the technical corners and the long first descent to stay out of trouble before accelerating past countryman Oskar Opstad Vike on the second downhill to lead into the decisive final corner. He then eased to the line, celebrating with the Trondheim crowd.

Vike, 21, claimed his highest World Cup finish in second, while 19‑year‑old Swede Alvar Myhlback delivered the eye‑catching move of the day, sprinting from fifth to third in the finishing straight to secure his first World Cup podium in only his 10th individual start. Erik Valnes and Ansgar Evensen—both on the sprint podium in Ruka a week earlier—featured prominently in the final.

The day proved costly for several stars: Edvin Anger (SWE), Even Northug (NOR), Federico Pellegrino (ITA) and Jules Chappaz (FRA) went out in the quarter‑finals, while Harald Østberg Amundsen (NOR) and Ben Ogden (USA) missed the final after contact in the second semi‑final. Perfect conditions rewarded aggressive racing but punished mistakes on the tight Trondheim corners that were treacherous at last season’s World Championships.

Speaking after the finish, Klæbo called the milestone “perfect,” adding that doing it at home and in his signature sprint made it extra special. The Trondheim weekend continues with the men’s and women’s 20 km skiathlons on Saturday.
