Cross-country: Maja Dahlqvist’s Olympic plan — cutting 100 training hours
Originally published in SVT Sport on October 06, 2025
Swedish cross-country skier Maja Dahlqvist is changing her preparation for the Milan–Cortina 2026 Olympics, which she says will likely be her last Games. After a career of heavy training loads, the 31‑year‑old plans to cut her annual volume by around 100 hours.
“I don’t think training more will make me better right now. It feels like a fun thing to test,” she told SVT Sport. Dahlqvist says her aim this season is to target a few key elements, emphasizing some harder sessions while overall training a bit less.
The interview was conducted at a high‑altitude camp in Lavazè, Italy. SVT expert Anders Blomquist describes the strategy as very interesting, noting that individual adjustments can help experienced athletes peak for championship events.
