Radiosporten report: Torgny Mogren criticises new format used in Toblach

Radiosporten expert Torgny Mogren was highly critical of the new format used in the third stage of the Tour de Ski in Toblach. The stage’s 5-kilometre freestyle race was split into four separate heats, with athletes’ individual times later used to determine the final placings.

Mogren said he did not think the format “added anything extra or any real suspense”. He described the set-up as confusing: “It became messy and it will be hard to make this into something exciting. I also see too many unfair aspects depending on which heat you ended up in.”

The piece is a short reaction from Radiosporten following the event in Toblach during the Tour de Ski. Mogren’s comments focus on fairness and the spectator experience when a mass-start or traditional individual start is replaced by multiple timed heats.
