It was a tough day for Sweden’s William Poromaa and Alvar Myhlback in the men’s 10 km classic in Toblach during the Tour de Ski.
Both missed yesterday’s sprint finals and followed up with poor results again today.
“Myhlback: ‘It’s just sad, I’m skiing so slowly… it’s the worst there is. Nothing felt good. Even my double-poling is really bad, then it’s bad,’” he told SVT Sport. The 19‑year‑old finished 58th, nearly two minutes behind the winner, Norway’s Mattis Stenshagen.
Poromaa fared somewhat better but was still disappointed with 24th place, about one minute behind Stenshagen. “It goes well at the start and I get away nicely, but then it just stops,” he said to SVT Sport. Asked whether a weak start to the season creates pressure ahead of the Olympics, he answered, “Yes, absolutely.”
Both athletes told SVT it is not an option to drop out of the Tour de Ski.
