Swedish cross-country skier William Poromaa has given a frank assessment of his condition ahead of his first World Cup appearance of the season.

Poromaa explained that he became ill during the Swedish season opener in Gällivare and therefore missed last weekend’s World Cup stop in Ruka. As he returns to the circuit for Saturday’s skiathlon in Trondheim, he told Radiosporten that his shape "feels really bad" and that he is still on the way back after the illness.

The Trondheim skiathlon marks his season debut on the World Cup tour, and Poromaa tempered expectations while focusing on regaining form through racing. Sveriges Radio scheduled live audio coverage of the skiathlon from 11:05.
