Powerful Olympic statement: Karoline Simpson-Larsen takes sensational first World Cup win

Karoline Simpson-Larsen produced a breakthrough performance to win the women’s 10 km freestyle in Davos, claiming her first World Cup victory and sending a strong message ahead of Olympic selection for Milano–Cortina 2026.
With several top distance contenders opting out of the race, including Heidi Weng and Frida Karlsson, Simpson-Larsen seized the opportunity. The 28-year-old from Rollag in Buskerud held off Sweden’s Moa Ilar and Norway’s Astrid Øyre Slind, who finished 2.1 and 2.2 seconds behind, respectively.
Speaking to Viaplay, Simpson-Larsen said she focused on avoiding a blow-up and believed her extensive training at altitude this year—well suited to Davos’ elevation—paid off. She also took inspiration from compatriot Einar Hedegart’s strong performance earlier in the day.
The event mirrors the Olympic discipline slated for Milano–Cortina, further strengthening Simpson-Larsen’s candidacy. Earlier this season she placed second over the same distance at Norway’s season opener in Beitostølen, and has shown consistent top-level form.
Viaplay experts praised the result, with Niklas Dyrhaug calling it a sensational moment and Jan Christian Bjørn noting her stability at the top this season and decisive finish in Davos.
