Norwegian star Kristine Stavås Skistad warned again after Tour de Ski incident

Kristine Stavås Skistad received a yellow card — her third this season — after the women's 20 km pursuit stage in the Tour de Ski on Thursday. The card was handed out because Skistad double-poled (skated) inside a technical zone, a breach of the race rules.

Skistad finished last in the pursuit and called her own performance poor, saying to SVT Sport that it felt like she had never skied before. She told VG that “they were after me”, referring to the officials' decision.

The Norwegian sprint specialist has already been disqualified once this season (in Davos) after receiving a second yellow card. Her first yellow came at the Norway season opener in Beitostølen. At one later race she reportedly tried to incur a second yellow deliberately to remove the constant threat of disqualification, but was instead shown a red card for using an illegal technique.

If Skistad receives a fourth yellow this season she will be excluded from the remaining Tour de Ski stages — either Saturday’s classic sprint or Sunday’s climb up the slalom hill.
