The Swedish women delivered a strong performance with double podium places in the third stage of the Tour de Ski in Toblach. The stage was a new competition format — a five-kilometre freestyle race split into four separate heats, with each athlete's individual time deciding the final placings.
Emma Ribom finished second and Moa Ilar third. The stage was won by American Jessie Diggins, who stretched her lead in the overall Tour standings halfway through the multi-stage event. After the Toblach stage Moa Ilar sits third overall, one minute behind Diggins and ten seconds behind Norway's Astrid Øyre Slind.
Frida Karlsson had a tough race and placed 52nd, 38 seconds behind winner Diggins. The Tour continues on New Year’s Day with the fourth of six stages, a pursuit in classic technique.
