Swedish national cross‑country team manager Anders Byström hailed Alvar Myhlback after the teenager’s brilliant start to the season culminated in a podium finish in the World Cup sprint in Trondheim.
Speaking to Radiosporten, Byström said, “Everyone gets to see what an enormously skilled skier he is – both in sprint and in traditional cross‑country skiing,” adding that the staff had long hoped for such a breakthrough.
Although the World Cup now moves to Davos, Switzerland, this coming weekend, Myhlback will not compete there. Instead, he will focus on preparing for the long‑distance Ski Classics series. Byström emphasized that Myhlback’s rapid progress and versatility are impressive, and that his early‑season results underline his status as one of Sweden’s most exciting prospects.
The interview follows Myhlback’s podium in Trondheim and comes as Sweden names squads for the Davos World Cup without several stars, while the federation monitors athletes’ individual plans for the heart of the winter season.
