Therese Johaug ended her season in a surprising defeat at the Skarverennet, where she was outpaced by Astrid Øyre Slind by over two minutes. This unexpected outcome was alarming to followers, as it's not a result typically associated with the renowned skier.
NRK's cross-country skiing expert, Fredrik Aukland, commented on Johaug's performance during the race, noting that as Slind crossed the finish line, it was confirmed she had a significant lead over Johaug, leaving spectators astonished.
Despite this disappointing finish, Johaug's manager revealed earlier in the week that she had been feeling unwell, which added to her uncertainty regarding participation in upcoming races. Johaug expressed her fatigue from a long and eventful season and asked for more time to decide on her future in the sport.
Skarverennet typically spans 37 kilometers, but this year's course was shortened due to milder weather conditions, concluding at Jægertoppen after 29 kilometers. While it was a challenging outing for Johaug, another well-known competitor, Simen Hegstad Krüger, claimed victory in the men's division, finishing with a time that showcased his dominance in the event.
