Worlds organizing board reported to police after financial collapse

The board responsible for the Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim has been reported to the police in the wake of the major financial shortfall linked to last season’s event.
Earlier in the year, Norway’s Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet) determined that the organizers had violated the law. However, it chose not to impose penalties on the grounds that the breaches were due to lack of knowledge rather than intent.
Now, the association Skigrasrota has submitted a police complaint, arguing that the matter should also be considered by law enforcement. They want possible criminal responsibility to be clarified after what has been described as a financial fiasco around the championship.
The report adds a new legal dimension to the aftermath of the Trondheim Worlds, which have continued to face scrutiny over budgeting, governance and transparency.
