Highlights from the Nordic Combined Committee Meeting
Originally published in FIS on September 28, 2024
The Nordic Combined committee convened in Zurich, Switzerland on September 27, 2024, to deliberate on important developments regarding the upcoming season.
During the meeting, members reviewed the decisions made by the sub-committee focused on equipment, as well as updated calendars and key elements of the development program for the next season.
Following the committee's earlier decisions in Portorož, Slovenia during May 2024, several significant updates were announced:
Common Waxing
Building on the success of the inaugural common waxing test event held in Oberstdorf, Germany, the committee confirmed an additional test event for the 2024-25 World Cup season in Schonach, Germany. In collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and FIS Sustainability representatives, a comprehensive plan is being drafted to ensure that the event is both sustainable and efficient. Further details will be shared as the season approaches.
Suit Limitations
In a bid to bring more consistency to competitions, the committee is implementing suit limitations in the World Cup. Following a successful test during the Summer Grand Prix, athletes will now be permitted to use five ski jumping suits throughout the 2024-25 World Cup season. They will initially be allowed three suits in the first period, with an additional suit for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and another for the final period. Suits will be validated using stamps, and a new chip system—where individual suit components are tagged with an identifier by equipment controllers—will be trialed further. Only those stamped and chipped suits will be permitted in competitions.
