Race report (from NRK / NTB)
Jens Lurås Oftebro produced a powerful cross‑country leg and won the Olympic Nordic combined event in difficult conditions. After the ski jumping part he started the 10 km as seventh, but in the long, challenging and loose track he worked his way up and eventually broke clear with a decisive effort. The medal positions were decided in a final sprint on the stadium lap: Oftebro won the sprint, Johannes Lamparter took silver for Austria and Eero Hirvonen took bronze for Finland.
Commentary and reactions
NRK and NTB live updates described how a chase group reeled in early leader Kristjan Ilves roughly halfway through the ski race. Oftebro pushed hard on the final lap, tried to drop the others in the long climb and held off Johannes Lamparter in the sprint.
Oftebro after the race: “It’s insane to pull this off individually. The snow was very loose, and since I’m good on skis that can be an advantage. There was a lot of grip and clumping along the way, so I’m very pleased it ended like this.”
Former champion Jarl Magnus Riiber praised Oftebro’s race: “He was absolutely enormous today… he controlled it and timed the last climb perfectly.” NRK expert Jørgen Graabak commented that the course and conditions made it an extremely tough race.
Other Norwegian results and notes
Andreas Skoglund finished seventh overall. Einar Lurås Oftebro dropped to 12th after the cross‑country leg. Kristjan Ilves had led earlier but was caught by the chasing group.
