A New Sculpture of a Ski Jumper Unveiled in Warsaw

In Warsaw, in front of the Museum of Sport and Tourism, a new sculpture of a ski jumper was unveiled. The work, created by Professor Jan Tutaj, is located in the Sculpture Park at the Olympic Centre. The ceremony attracted many guests, including Olympic champion Wojciech Fortuna. The project received funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage's budget.

The sculpture, made of bronze, stands 140 cm tall and is set on a 3.2 m high pedestal made of Corten steel. The pedestal symbolizes a ski jump, aligning with the author’s intent to honor the achievements of Polish ski jumpers like Wojciech Fortuna, Adam Małysz, and Kamil Stoch.

Professor Tutaj emphasized that in designing the sculpture, his focus was to capture the moment of the athlete's take-off from the ramp, which is crucial for achieving an ideal silhouette and long distance. "When preparing the project, I aimed to primarily capture the moment of the athlete's take-off from the ramp," said the author.

Among the invited guests was Wojciech Fortuna, the Olympic champion from Sapporo in 1972. He expressed his joy at the appearance of the jumper sculpture in the park, underlining the significance of this sport. "I am very pleased that a ski jumper's sculpture has appeared, representing this beloved sport of mine," Fortuna said. He added that the Museum of Sport and Tourism takes care of ski jumping, with a growing collection of medals donated by athletes.

The sculpture project was funded via the program "Sculpture in Public Space for Independence 2024", carried out by the Centre for Sculpture in Orońsko, with funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage's budget.
