Olympic place in doubt — Ski jumping legend dropped from Four Hills team

Simon Ammann had hoped a solid result at the New Year’s competition in Garmisch‑Partenkirchen would boost his confidence and persuade selectors to keep him in the Four Hills (Vierschanzentournee) line‑up. Instead, after missing the second round at both the opener in Oberstdorf and at Garmisch, the 44‑year‑old Swiss veteran has been removed from the Tournament squad.
Ammann — a multiple Olympic, World Championship and ski‑flying world champion with 23 World Cup wins to his name — never won the Four Hills overall title. Now he suffers another setback: together with compatriot Juri Kesseli he has been taken out of the Tournee team, and Felix Trunz and Killian Peier will take their places.
The decision also casts doubt over Ammann’s participation at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan–Cortina. Ammann aimed to secure one of Switzerland’s four Olympic quota places; Gregor Deschwanden (currently 18th on the Tournament) appears set, and Sandro Hauswirth (21st) has also made a strong case. Ammann’s weak form puts his Olympic start in question.
