A scare at the Four Hills Tournament: Estonian ski jumper Artti Aigro crashed heavily on Wednesday during training before the New Year’s jump in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After a 127-metre jump in the second training round he fell on landing, remained in pain in the snow and had to be carried out of the stadium on a stretcher.
Medical checks produced the bitter diagnosis: a partial rupture of the medial ligament in his left knee and a fracture in his left foot. At the opening competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf Aigro had reached 26th place.
The 26-year-old now faces the prospect of missing the Olympic Games. On Instagram he posted: “I will come back! See you in a few weeks,” together with a photo of his bandaged leg, and added: “Happy New Year!”
The article is a brief report on the crash, the injuries and the potential impact on Aigro’s Olympic hopes; no further medical timeline or official team statement is provided.
