Daniel Tschofenig, the reigning overall World Cup winner in ski jumping and champion of the Four Hills Tournament, has been voted Austria’s Sportsman of the Year 2025. The honor was decided by a journalists’ poll and announced during an awards gala at Vienna’s Stadthalle.

According to the report, Tschofenig collected 916 points, finishing ahead of golfer Sepp Straka (729) and alpine world champion Raphael Haaser (721). “I honestly didn’t expect it. It’s really cool to be able to take this with me,” Tschofenig was quoted as saying by Kronen Zeitung. He called the accolade a perfect cap to a season “full of success,” highlighted by his overall World Cup title and victory at the Four Hills.

Tschofenig is the first Austrian ski jumper since Thomas Morgenstern in 2011 to receive the award.

On the women’s side, alpine skier Stephanie Venier received the parallel award. Venier won Super‑G gold and bronze in the team event at the Alpine World Championships in Saalbach in February and announced her retirement in August, calling the honor a fitting conclusion to her career.
