What nobody expected happened in Innsbruck! In the third competition of the 74th Four Hills Tournament (TCS) the surprise winner was Japan's Ren Nikaido, who claimed his first World Cup victory and halted Domen Prevc's run. Although Prevc dominated earlier rounds and is heading for the overall TCS title, he will not replicate the feat of winning all four events (as Sven Hannawald or Kamil Stoch once did).

Prevc still holds a comfortable lead in the general classification — more than 41 points clear of the rest of the field — so the final contest in Bischofshofen appears largely formal; only a catastrophe could deny him the tournament victory and the "Golden Eagle". The Innsbruck result gives some drama going into the last event, but Prevc remains the heavy favourite.

Polish fans had something to cheer about as well: 18-year-old Kacper Tomasiak continued his breakout season and finished eighth on the Bergisel in Innsbruck. After three events he sits 10th overall in the TCS general classification and is now firmly established among the world's top jumpers.

Other Polish competitors did not advance to the second round in Innsbruck and therefore did not improve their tournament scores. The Four Hills Tournament concludes in Bischofshofen on Tuesday, when the overall winner of the 74th edition will be confirmed.
