Dramatic fall before the Wisła World Cup: Polish jumper crashes in training

On Tuesday morning, the Adam Małysz hill in Wisła underwent final checks ahead of the upcoming FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. Although the facility passed the test and winter conditions in the Beskid mountains are now good, the session was overshadowed by a serious-looking fall involving Polish jumper Mateusz Gruszka, as reported by TVP Sport.
Following last adjustments to the inrun, jumpers gathered for an unofficial try-out of the hill. TVP Sport expert Wiktor Pękala, who also took a jump himself, assessed that the hill preparation was very good.
During the training—attended by many lesser-known Polish jumpers and most of the group set to compete at the FIS Cup in Kandersteg this weekend—Gruszka lost balance in flight, crashed on the knoll and then slid helplessly down the steep landing slope. Fortunately, the 24‑year‑old got up under his own power and, before heading to the locker room, said he felt fine and did not need medical assistance, according to TVP Sport.
Organizers had considered a hybrid competition format two weeks earlier due to uncertain weather, but conditions have improved and the hill has sufficient snow cover. Another open training in Wisła is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. The venue will then host two individual World Cup competitions on 6–7 December, offering Polish athletes another chance to score points and improve their positions in the overall standings.
