Ski jumping in Falun: Three Germans in top ten as Maruyama suffers first defeat

Germany’s women showed progress at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Falun but narrowly missed the podium again. Agnes Reisch finished fifth, Katharina Schmid eighth, and Selina Freitag tenth, marking three Germans inside the top ten. Juliane Seyfarth was 12th after the first round but slipped back following a short second jump in a slow track. Anna Hollandt failed to qualify for the final, continuing a difficult start to her season after a prior disqualification over suit checks.
At the front, Slovenia’s Nika Prevc ended Nozomi Maruyama’s early-season winning streak. Holding a slim 1.2‑point lead after the first round, Prevc responded to Maruyama’s strong 129 m second jump by soaring beyond 130 m—the only athlete to do so—to secure her maiden World Cup victory. Norway’s Eirin Maria Kvandal took third place.
The German team expressed satisfaction with their upward trend: Reisch produced two solid jumps (124 m and 119 m) for a season-best fifth, while Schmid continued her top‑ten consistency and Freitag improved notably from 17th on Friday to tenth. Seyfarth was hindered by a slow in‑run in the final, and Hollandt’s 106 m ended her day after one round.
Elsewhere, high winds forced men’s competition issues in Ruka, with references from officials such as FIS race director Sandro Pertile and comments from Andreas Wellinger about the cancellations. Sportschau also promotes its season calendar and replay coverage of the Falun event.
