FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix ready for takeoff
Originally published in FIS on July 14, 2025
The world’s top ski jumpers will line up for the FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix beginning in Courchevel (FRA) on August 9–10. First staged for men in 1994 and expanded to women in 2012, the series provides elite summer competition on plastic mats and serves as a proving ground for new formats and regulations.
For the first time since 2009, the tour returns to Italy. Predazzo (ITA)—the hill designated for Ski Jumping at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games—hosts September 18–20. With the facility newly completed, this will be the first FIS competition on the hill and an official test event for the Games.
The October rounds will be hybrid events, featuring ice in-run tracks to better simulate winter conditions and offer preparation ahead of the World Cup. Defending champions Lara Malsiner (ITA) and Paweł Wąsek (POL) aim to retain their overall titles, with Wąsek seeking to repeat after edging Austria’s Stefan Kraft last year.
Summer Grand Prix 2025 schedule: - Courchevel (FRA) – August 9–10 - Wisła (POL) – August 16–17 - Râșnov (ROU) – September 13–14 - Predazzo (ITA) – September 18–20 - Hinzenbach (AUT) – October 18–19* (men only; women compete here in the World Cup) - Klingenthal (GER) – October 25–26
New format and equipment regulations: - Group-stage qualification debuts in Courchevel. Men: 50 starters split into 10 groups of five; top two per group plus five “lucky losers” advance (25 finalists). Women: 40 starters in eight groups of five; four lucky losers advance (20 finalists). Only the final-round jumps count toward results, with all finalists starting from zero. - New sanctioning procedures for equipment infractions introduce yellow cards; a second violation triggers a red card and suspension from the next event.
FIS notes the Grand Prix’s role as a vital testing platform: athletes train extensively on plastic in summer, and organizers can trial formats and rules outside the constraints of the winter World Cup calendar.
