Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) captured the final round of the men’s FIS Ski Jumping Grand Prix in Klingenthal, Germany, completing a Japanese double on the day after compatriot Nozomi Maruyama won the women’s competition and the overall title.
Kobayashi set the tone with a huge 144.0 m jump in the first round, losing some style points on landing but still leading series frontrunner Philipp Raimund (GER) by 3.8 points at halftime. Raimund, needing a solid result to lock up the overall Grand Prix title, delivered a composed 136.0 m second jump to overtake Domen Prevc (SLO) and take the provisional lead. Kobayashi then closed out the win with a shorter but cleaner second jump—10 m less than his opener—earning the day’s highest score and prevailing by 7.3 points. Ren Nikaido (JPN) climbed to fourth ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR), with Pius Paschke (GER) sixth. Sakutaro Kobayashi (JPN) and Niklas Bachlinger (AUT) moved up in round two to 11th and ninth respectively.
“The ice track wasn’t ideal due to the difficult weather conditions, but that was the same for everyone,” Kobayashi said. “I’m happy with my victory and form, especially with winter starting in four weeks.” Prevc noted the late-summer ice in-run made this a valuable test just before winter.
In the women’s competition, Nozomi Maruyama clinched the overall Grand Prix title in style with her first GP victory. After leading round one with 141.0 m, she answered Nika Prevc’s 137.0 m second jump by soaring 140.0 m to win by 17.4 points. Yuki Ito (JPN) completed the podium in third, with Selina Freitag (GER) fourth and Sara Takanashi (JPN) fifth. Maruyama, who had six podiums in eight GP starts, said she hopes to carry this shape into the World Cup opener in Lillehammer (NOR).
The Grand Prix weekend concludes with a Mixed Team event on Sunday.
