Organizers in Klingenthal have confirmed that the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup at the Vogtland Arena will go ahead this weekend despite unseasonably warm temperatures.
According to organizing chief Alexander Ziron, the hill in Klingenthal has been prepared with up to 50 centimeters of snow on the inrun, take-off, and outrun. While daytime highs approaching 10 degrees Celsius are not ideal for a winter event, a series of cold nights at the end of November allowed sufficient production of man‑made snow to bring the venue to full World Cup standard. Final preparations are underway to ensure optimal conditions for the 120 expected athletes.
Teams are scheduled to start arriving on Wednesday morning while the last technical and broadcast setups are completed around the arena. The program features two individual competitions each for women and men. A welcome celebration for athletes will take place in the town center on Thursday evening, and spectators can follow the competitions from Friday onward.
MDR SACHSEN is a media partner of the event and will provide coverage across radio and television. Morning host Silvio Zschage will emcee the opening on Thursday and be on site again Saturday. In addition, German ski jumper Selina Freitag will appear on MDR’s Sunday Brunch program, where she spoke about the appeal of ski jumping outweighing any fear of risks.
The Vogtland Arena, completed in 2006 and dominated by its 35‑meter hill tower rising above the surrounding hills, is ready to welcome the world’s best ski jumpers despite the thaw.
