Klingenthal World Cup without Karl Geiger

Germany’s long‑time ski jumping stalwart Karl Geiger will not compete at the home World Cup in Klingenthal this coming weekend. Head coach Stefan Horngacher announced that Geiger will use the next few days to optimize his jumping technique together with coach Max Mechler.

Geiger has had a difficult start to the winter, scoring World Cup points in only two events so far. Most recently in Wisła he failed to qualify twice, finishing 56th and 54th in the preliminaries. A timeline for his return to the World Cup was not given. The German Ski Association confirmed that Luca Roth will take Geiger’s place in Klingenthal.

Andreas Wellinger, the 2018 Olympic champion, has also struggled for form—despite a 7th place in Ruka—finishing well back in Wisła. Unlike Geiger, Wellinger remains in the lineup for Klingenthal after completing additional training sessions in Ramsau with coach Andreas Mitter. Horngacher said Wellinger is looking forward to the Klingenthal hill.

Horngacher highlighted Germany’s current bright spots: Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann are in strong form, and Pius Paschke is showing a positive trend. The large hill in Klingenthal should suit Paschke’s strengths in flight.

After Klingenthal, the circuit moves to Engelberg, followed by a break for the holidays and the Four Hills Tournament opener in Oberstdorf on December 29.
