Poles won the Olympic silver medal in the team pairs (duets) competition. In sensational circumstances — after the cancellation of the two final poor jumps — the White‑Reds secured the third ski jumping medal at these Olympic Games. “The boys can cry today,” said an emotional coach Maciej Maciusiak on Eurosport.

Before the final series of the top five jumpers, conditions suddenly deteriorated. Domen Prevc and Kacper Tomasiak waited for many minutes and were sent down in nightmarish wind and weather. When only three athletes remained at the top, the organizers decided to cancel the final round. Thanks to that decision the Polish team kept their podium place.

“ The boys can cry today. What happened today is unbelievable. The first and second series, the third — we all saw it. This is something amazing. Congratulations to everyone. These Games will go down in history and what happened here… It was hard, it was not fair. We saw from the speeds that it was less than Raimund, there was no point. Kacper was basically used as a guinea pig, we were told earlier that they would probably cancel. Only on the TV feed up top did we see that Kacper was sitting on the bar,” Maciej Maciusiak said on Eurosport.

“ It's hard for me to talk about everything we've been through as a team. It was tough, and everyone can see how it ended. We tried to pick the best. Those were very difficult decisions. We even considered Kamil, but these are decisions that can affect someone’s future. The guys wrote themselves into the history books. Moments like this make it worth doing — that’s why athletes train, to win medals. The road is bumpy; some have an easier time, some a harder. We finish the Games with three medals, actually four if you count the duets,” he added.
