The charming village of Ruczynów in Poland is set to host the fifth edition of the one-of-a-kind "Ski Jumping for Amateurs" competition on August 31, 2024. This year, the event has attracted more than 80 participants, marking a record number of entries. Organized by Mateusz Seremak, this competition playfully turns the traditional ski jumping format on its head by simplifying the rules: jump distances are directly converted into points, eliminating the need for complex calculations.
Last year, competitors reached an impressive mark of 8 meters, and despite his absence this time due to scheduling conflicts with the FIS Cup in Szczyrk, former jumper Wiktor Węgrzynkiewicz has participated in the past.
What truly sets this event apart is its community-centric vibe, which has drawn in media personnel and celebrities eager to witness its unique charm. This year, a fresh playoff format is being introduced, promising an exhilarating experience for fans. Besides the open category, participants can compete in specific groups for non-skiing skis, juniors, and women, leading to an array of awards up for grabs.
With a welcoming atmosphere, the competition is open to participants of all ages, from youngsters to seniors. Over the years, it has gained immense popularity, evolving into a cultural phenomenon within the Polish ski jumping landscape.
