Markus Eisenbichler has retired from his successful ski jumping career at the end of March. The German world champion ski jumper now aims to break through in football, signing with local club TSV Siegsdorf. He debuted with the team in the third division, playing as a substitute in a match that ended in a 2:2 draw against ASV Piding II.
Eisenbichler, who reflected on his career in ski jumping, shared on Instagram that being a 'retired athlete' is not so bad, as he enjoys experiencing sports in a different form.
He has an impressive track record, having won three gold medals at the 2019 Nordic Ski World Championships in Seefeld and Innsbruck, including an individual title from the large hill. His career in the World Cup began during the Four Hills Tournament in 2011/2012.
As he embarks on this new journey in football, it showcases the versatility and passion of athletes in pursuing new opportunities beyond their original sports.
