— I don't think it was an accident — Johann Andre Forfang tells dagbladet.no about the detection of fluorine in Paweł Wąsek's ski wax. The disqualification of the Polish jumper from the recent World Cup competition in Innsbruck caused a wave of debate and controversy. Now Norwegians have openly attacked the White-and-Red team.

On the past weekend the situation around Paweł Wąsek became very heated. Our compatriot was disqualified from the Innsbruck competition, part of the Four Hills Tournament (TCS). The reason for the decision shocked many: an excessive amount of banned fluorine was found in the jumper's ski wax.
Now Norwegians have spoken out. “I really don't believe it. This wasn't sabotage for sure. There were significant amounts of fluorine. It wasn't just trace amounts. I don't think it was an accident,” Johann Andre Forfang commented to dagbladet.no.
The Norwegian coverage even recalled earlier equipment incidents: “Johann Andre Forfang and Marius Lindvik were caught because of stiff threads in ski suits at the World Championships in Trondheim. They were suspended from jumping rights for three months, even though it was thought they didn't know about it,” the same outlet wrote.
“The question then is: what's the difference between stiff threads [referring to last season's suit affair] and being caught with fluorine on skis? Why does one mean disqualification and the other just a ban?” Norwegians asked in their piece. “It's another example that the world isn't fair,” Forfang assessed for dagbladet.no.
Polish team coach Maciej Maciusiak also commented on the matter: “We don't know 100 percent yet, but there's a big probability that it's the fault of a wax which has a certificate and was normally approved under all regulations. It looks like it was contaminated. Applying it a second time in some places shows fluorine, in others not, so the measurement is not entirely reliable. But there's a big chance the fault lies with the company.”
The case has sparked broad discussion in the ski jumping community about testing protocols, equipment rules and the consistency of sanctions. The Polish side insists on investigating the wax supplier and possible contamination, while Norwegian voices stress the seriousness of finding significant fluor levels on the skis.
